|Steve - Bass
History: I picked up the guitar in sixth grade (1995) and played pretty much consistently for 2 1/2 years, forming my first 'band', Imperial Godz, in 1996. This 'band' quickly disintegrated, and I switched to bass in order to join the "cool" band in town. Again, this project didn't last all that long. In 1998, I was asked to join Thyatira, whom I had befriended the previous year. After numerous lineup and philosophical changes, Thyatira still thrives, as we've just finished a 4 song demo with Dale Meiners at Ghetto Love Recording, Chicago. About mid-summer of 2003, Benjamin approached me about jamming with some guys he had been playing music with (Roe and Oak). Things hit off pretty well, and Obscured In Exile was spawned.
Influences: Hmmm.musically, too many to list. Limiting it strictly to bass players, I would have to say Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads), Justin Chancellor (Tool), Sting (ONLY with The Police), Mike Gordon (Phish), and probably most of all, Tony Chudyk and Jason Thompson, both local bassists who have made me want to be half the player they are.
Preferences: When not listening to or playing music, I enjoy Kevin Smith and Tarantino flicks, Comedy Central, Goose Island Honker's Ale, screaming at my roommates, and breaking shit outside of 229 N 9th St.
